Daniel Chery Questionnaire

1. What led you to pursue a career as a stylist? Was fashion always a part of your plans?

  • Fashion was not always part of the plan. My previous aspirations were to be a professional boxer. I boxed and trained fighters many years of my life. I’ve always been an unofficial stylist and into fashion with the way I dress and the eye for distinct looks. Unfortunately, being brought up around street culture in Philadelphia, we are not educated about professions such as styling. As my younger brother Yvesmark Chery began modeling seriously, I began styling seriously; the rest was history from there.

2. What do you find most fulfilling about your work as a stylist? Is there a particular moment or project that has left a lasting impact on you?

  • Other than being able to work with my younger brother, the most fulfilling part of styling is the genuine interactions I have with the people I work with. Being able to change someone’s mood, confidence, and aura with wardrobe is an underrated feeling.  There isn’t any lasting projects that has left an impact on me because everyone I think that’s was amazing I get something new to top it. One of my most recent favorites was working with Christina Milian. She was very kind, genuine, and down to earth, even off the camera. Months later after working with her, she then had a role on the screen with one of my all time favorite shows, Dexter. To watch and enjoy entertainment knowing that I now know people on the screen, leaves an impact on me as I sit back and think about my progression.

3. You divide your time between Paris and New York. How would you describe the differences in their fashion scenes? Do you find yourself more inspired by one city over the other?

  • New York’s fashion scene is a bit more fast paced. More about the vip rather than fashion at times. Although Paris has its moments, it’s a bit more about the fashion and a major difference in culture, norms, and practices. I find myself more inspired when I leave the country because I’m dealing with more of a melting pot & diversity overall. Never in a million years did I imagine that I would be partaking this much in fashion overseas.

4. You’ve styled some high-profile clients. Which celebrities have been the most enjoyable to work with, and what made those collaborations special?

  • There is no one most enjoyable client. I’ve been lucky to never have a client that was not genuine and down to earth. That makes my work and every collaboration overall special.

5.  Event and red carpet styling has become a major focus for you. How does it compare to editorial work, and do you have a preference between the two?

  • I enjoy event and red carpet styling so much more than editorials. I enjoy working behind the scenes and helping my clients steal the spotlight. Countless times early in my career, I’ve been rejected, overlooked, and ignored by the editorial world. I have never really had my fair share in that realm of fashion, due to it being in my opinion, filled with such nepotism and who do you know as opposed to the quality of your work. When I attend events with my clients and see the faces, cameras, and reactions of the looks I put together, it fulfills the “editorial void” and confirms the specialness of my work.

6. What’s on the horizon for your career? Are there any exciting projects or goals you’re currently working toward?

  • On the horizon, all I can expect is more to come. I’m here and I’m a part of the industry. I’m looking forward to making more statements with more celebrities. I plan on continuing to build more. I am such an asset and have so many more gifts beyond fashion that’s expressed through styling for now. Later I’d love to get into some styling for television/film and way later possibly designing and teaching fashion.

Thank you for your time, Daniel. We appreciate your insights and look forward to seeing more of your work.
